Wix Or WordPress ? Which is Better ?

Are you confused about which website builder to choose for your website?

Wix or WordPress?

If you nodded your head and answered yes, then I got your back!!!

Let’s compare Wix and WordPress together.

1. Pricing

Wix offers a basic website builder for free. But, it adds Wix-branded advertisements on your website, and you cannot use a custom domain name. It does not offer any necessary add-ons such as google analytics, e-commerce, etc.

To remove ads and get additional features, you need to upgrade to one of the premium plans they offer.

WordPress is open source and it is available for free to anyone to use. But you need your custom domain name and hosting depending upon your budget.

The cost may increase if you decide to use premium WordPress themes or plugins. You can use free themes and plugins to reduce the cost.

2. Ease of Use

Wix comes with powerful and easy-to-use tools to build your website. It has a simple drag and drop interface where you can edit the elements in a WYSIWYG interface.

WordPress comes with an incredibly powerful WordPress bloc editor that allows you to edit your pages with a live preview. WordPress also has a drag-and-drop interface.

You can also use page builder plugins such as elementor and wp bakery.

3. Design and layout

Wix comes with more than 900+ pre-made templates that are fully responsive and written in HTML5.

One big disadvantage of Wix is that once you have selected a template, you cannot change it anytime in the future.

WordPress has thousands of free and paid themes available. All the themes are responsive and can be customized completely.

More importantly, you can change your WordPress theme anytime in the future.

4. Plugins and App (Wix calls them apps)

Wix comes with nearly 200+ apps that you can add to your site. Many of the apps are free and have a lite version.

Though there is a limited collection of apps, They cover the most commonly requested features by site owners.

WordPress.org directory alone has around 58000+ free plugins available. There are many other premium plugins available on other marketplaces.

The saying goes: “if you think of a feature, there’s probably a WordPress plugin that makes it happen.”

5. E-commerce

Wix offers eCommerce with its paid plans. Users with the free plan cannot run their eCommerce store on Wix.

There are a few third-party apps that can be used to promote the store, but the overall features are limited.

WordPress makes it super easy using woocommerce, which is the most popular eCommerce platform in the world.

There are plenty of plugins available that can be used to sell physical and digital goods, services, events, subscriptions, and more.

6. Data Portability

Data portability allows you the freedom to move your content away when you need it.

Wix comes with very limited options to move your content to another platform. You can only export blog posts in XML format. Other than that, you need to download everything manually.

This makes it a bit difficult to move your content to another platform if needed.

WordPress is a proper content management system and makes it extremely easy to export your content in XML format.

You can easily move your WordPress site to a new host if you are not satisfied with your current WordPress hosting company.
